Japan has granted Benin more than 750 million CFA francs (some 985,000 dollars) to fight poverty and child trafficking, the finance ministry said Tuesday.
An official said the aid aimed at reducting poverty and to fund a pilot project to fight child slavery through prevention and rehabilitation measures.
Benin has been dogged by charges of widespread child labour.
Between 1996 and 2000, some 3,000 children were intercepted on Benin's frontiers en route to other countries for work.
More than 100 child slaves were apprehended this year. |
